Who are You America?
Significance of number thirteen in American heraldry
Ephraim was the leading tribe of the sons of Joseph, as God declares through his prophet Jeremiah: “Ephraim is my firstborn” (Jeremiah 31:9). What then of the United States? The fact that America began with 13 Colonies is highly significant. This number 13 is stamped all over the heraldry of the United States.
It was on July 14, 1777 that Congress officially sanctioned the American flag. The Congressional resolution stated: “Resolved that the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be 13 stars, white on a blue field.”
Some 84 years later, in April 1861, at the battle of ‘Bull Run’ in Manassas, at the beginning of the Civil War, the Confederate flag was given a red background with two crossed blue stripes containing 13 stars. Could it be that this number 13 is in some way connected with Manasseh, the firstborn son of Joseph, and the thirteenth tribe of Israel?

It is a well-known almost universal superstition that the number thirteen is an unlucky number. Hotels, motels and guesthouses avoid listing their rooms as number thirteen, and you will never find a hotel with a thirteenth floor! Yet, we find the number thirteen occur all over U.S. heraldry. Just think about this: Thirteen original colonies, thirteen stripes on the U.S. flag, thirteen rods in the National Mace, thirteen letters in America’s National Emblem, the “American Eagle!” And for minorities: the Thirteenth Amendment! The irony is that only those familiar with Jewish numerology, also known as Gematria, know the significance of the number thirteen. Clearly, the Founding Fathers of America did understand the significance of this number, and they especially chose to apply it, first to the Thirteen Colonies, and subsequently to most of the other visual images that together convey the identifying heraldry of the United States.
In the Hebrew language each letter of the alphabet, (aleph-bet), doubles up as a number, as there is no separate system of numbers, as we know in the West. Thus the Hebrew letters are themselves the numbers, so Aleph (A) is 1, Bet (B) is 2 and so on. This means that each number or combination of numbers has a particular meaning. The number thirteen is the numeric value of the Hebrew word ‘ECHAD,’ which means ‘ONE,’ just as is highlighted in the Book of Deuteronomy 6:4, the verse that declares the eternal Mosaic pledge to Israel:
“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is ONE!”
This immediately gives a completely different meaning to the number thirteen. It also happens to the numerical value of “Ahava,” which is the Hebrew word for “Love.” The Bible tells us that “God is Love!” No doubt the founding fathers intended to convey God’s “Oneness” and “Unity,” as well as God’s unfailing love, when they especially singled out number thirteen.
Once you start looking for links you will find them in all sorts of unlikely places. For instance, the country was founded on “July the Fourth,” this date too is spelled with thirteen letters. The year of the nation’s foundation was 1776 – 7+6=13.
Apart from the amazing meaning of the number 13 testifying that the ruling tribe of the United States of America is descended from Manasseh, the son of the Patriarch Joseph, we have further evidence of America’s Hebrew origins in the extraordinary symbolism of a constellation of 13 stars shaped like the ‘Star of David’ surrounded by a ‘Pillar of Fire’ and a ‘Pillar of Cloud.’ Let us ask ourselves the question: What people in all of world history were ever led by a ‘Pillar of Cloud’ and a ‘Pillar of Fire?’ There is only one answer, the children of Israel! For added emphasis of this fact the Founding Fathers placed a Star of David, the ultimate symbol of Israel at the centre of the image, and see it is made up of 13 stars. The most amazing thing is that all of it has been hidden in plain sight!
Thus the Creator of the Universe has placed His personal Number, which is His Signature, on America! He has in fact put His Divine SEAL on the national heraldry of the United States of America.
Looking at America’s Great Seal we notice the eagle holding in his right talon an olive branch carrying thirteen olives and thirteen leaves. When we add 13 plus 13 we get a sum total of 26, which just so happens to be the numerical value of YHVH, Yud, Hey, Vav, Hey, God’s Holy Name in the Hebrew language. With the number 26 thus concealed in the eagle’s right talon, in the left talon the eagle holds thirteen arrows. It would seem that there is a hidden message here, saying that the God of Israel (26) is ONE, e.g. (13). In this too the Founding Fathers were indicating the Hebrew origins of the nation.
Furthermore, if the numbers represented by the Hebrew letters in the names of the patriarchs; Abraham (5), Isaac (4), and Jacob (4) are added up you get 13. If you then count the number of the Hebrew letters in the names of the matriarchs; Sarah (3), Rebecca (4), Leah (3), and Rachel (3), you also get 13. As we have already seen 13 is not only the numeric value of the word “Oneness” or “Unity,” it can also mean “Avi,” which is “my Father.” It becomes even more interesting when you add the total number of letters in both the Hebrew patriarchs and the matriarchs and you get 26, which as we have already seen, is the numeric value of “Yud-Hey-Vav-Hey,”- the Hebrew letters of the Holy ineffable and unutterable name of the One and only True God, the Life Giving Creator of the Universe, and the God of Israel. It is He who has placed His Signature and Seal on the Great Seal of America!
P.S. Did you know that Joseph’s Dream is represented in the Presidential Seal?
It surely is an amazing thought that the founding fathers of America understood the paramount significance of the number thirteen, and they were fully aware of its sacred meaning and divine origins. We can safely conclude that this was the reason why they chose this particular number to highlight America’s Hebrew origins in the heraldry of the United States. The fact that this same number has become surrounded with superstition only serves to confirm the fact that Satan, the enemy of God, will twist, pollute and besmirch anything that emanates from our Creator in Heaven.
