Did Israelites Escape from Egypt Prior to the Exodus?

 

It is indeed true that multiple millions of Israelites escaped from Egypt prior to the Exodus mentioned in the Scriptures. Does this sound like heresy to you? Humanly speaking it would make eminent sense for them to do so, as after the glory days of Joseph’s eighty year reign, as some time after his death, they saw the political climate in Egypt change dramatically against them. It was obvious that major trouble was ahead, as the new Pharaoh, “who knew not Joseph,” acting out of fear for the power of the rising numbers of the Hebrew nation, decreed that all male babies born to the Hebrews should be forcibly drowned in the Nile River. Tell me, would you stay around to see your babies murdered by the state? I dare say any sane parent would want to leave that country as fast as their legs would carry them! This is one of the most overlooked facts of history; nevertheless eminent Bible scholars, Orthodox researchers and archaeologists have confirmed this truth. Estimates vary regarding the numbers involved, but with this threat of genocide hanging over them they are bound to be very considerable indeed. Hebraic wisdom from the sages, including modern rabbinic scholars has verified that not the entire Hebrew nation departed with Moses in the Exodus. The common consensus is that it may have been as few as twenty percent.

The Hebrew language is notorious for the many permutations that can be derived from a single word, as each word may provide up to five or more meanings. This makes translation from Hebrew into English a special challenge; hence the most common footnote found in the Hebrew Scriptures is, “Meaning uncertain.” As an example of some of the challenges faced by the translators, the NIV translation of Exodus 13:18 reads as follows:

So God led the people around by the desert road, toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt armed for battle.

However, other translators come up with differing versions. The King James has: “went up harnessed.” The New King James Version has: “in orderly ranks;” the New Living Translation has: “like an army ready for battle,”with the English Standard Version, the NASV, ASV, and Darby all using some variation of martial display. However, Young’s Translation comes up with a completely different interpretation with: “by fifties they went up.” The Hebrew word translated “armed for battle” is “hamushim,” which has no less than ten specific directions in which the term may be translated. Ironically, of the ten concepts of being “armed,” only one applies to anything marshal. Moreover, “hamushim” is a derivative of “hamesh,” meaning “five.” The Hebraic consensus of the sages, hamushim can also mean “fiftieth” (e.g. on the fiftieth decade of the standoff between God and Pharaoh). The discussion of the sages of Israel contains volumes, and it appears the consensus is one-fifth or twenty percent. (*1)

Only One Fourth of Israel went out with Moses!

According to the Bible, only ‘One Fourth’ of the Hebrew nation went out of Egypt led by Moses in the Exodus. That is just twenty-five percent! This leaves the question – what happened to the other seventy-five percent? We find startling confirmation in a most remarkable Scripture in the Book of Numbers:

Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number ‘ONE FOURTH’ of Israel?

These words were spoken by Balaam the prophet hired by Balak, the king of Moab to curse Israel. As Balaam looked down from the mountain upon the massive camp of Israel below, he spoke under Divine inspiration:

How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced? For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him; There! A people dwelling alone, not reckoning itself among the nations. Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number ‘ONE FOURTH’ of Israel?

(Numbers 23:8-10)

In this we are given a definitive answer, only 25 percent of the Hebrew nation came out of Egypt with Moses in the great Exodus. This indicates that the rest of the nation amounting to 75 percent of the total population had previously departed from the land of Egypt. This, more than anything else, explains the arrival of the Druids in Britain, Ireland and France, as well as the great explosion of great civilizations such as the Mycenaic civilization of Bronze Age Crete and Greece, as well as the proliferation of great civilizations springing up in Africa and the Americas.

The Bronze Age was a time of almost unbelievable accomplishments, both material and cultural. Overseas trade, metal gathering, and establishing of colonies linked lands in and surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, “in a network of mutual benefit.” (*2) Giant edifices and extravagant palaces were being built. Temples reaching to the sky were predominant in many lands, not only in Mesopotamia and Egypt, but also in Skara Brae in the Orkneys of northern Scotland to North, Central and South America. Many of these Temples were Ziggurats or Pyramids built on pseudo Sumerian or Egyptian styles. People were literate, as scholars are now coming to see, and alphabets and writing were common. It was a time, literally, of reaching to the stars, for astronomy, mathematics, lunar zodiacs, sailing charts and maps, and great observatories. The Druids especially excelled at astronomy.

Both Israelites and Pelagians, (descendants of Peleg, the ancestor of Abraham) were Hebrews, and both had been in Egypt. Many great Greek men of learning, including Pythagoras, are listed by Eusebius. Pythagoras…“became a disciple of the Egyptian prophets, at the time when some of the Hebrews appear to have made settlement in Egypt.” (*3) The Egyptians referred to their Hebrew guests as the Hyksos. The historian David Rohl states; “Some of the Hyksos departed from the Delta (Nile) in those of their sleek ships …to resettle in the Aegean islands and in the Argolid plains of the Peloponnese on mainland Greece. There they founded a new dynasty, which was destined to ignite the heroic era of Bronze Age Greece. The deeds and the exploits of the Danoi (the descendants of Danaus and the Danuta of the later Egyptian texts [Danites], would be extolled throughout the ages, culminating in the renowned corpus of ‘Homeric’ poems.” (*4) These early seafaring Israelites, many from the tribe of Dan, left Egypt long before Moses. They spread into some of the Mediterranean areas, including Greece, North Africa, Iberia, and the British Isles including Ireland, NW Europe, and the Americas. Each of their fleets arriving at their chosen destination, then being influenced by earlier peoples already in those areas, their cultures, art, ships, and weapons, even speech, would have had many foreign elements added, enough so that modern historians often presuppose their having been a completely different peoples. This, at least in part, explains the colonization of the tribe of Dan, the tuatha de danaan in Ireland, as well as the earlier settlement of the Druids in Britain.

The Druidic priesthood established colleges and schools of learning under the supreme authority of Arch-druids. There is no doubt that their educational system was the most advanced and far reaching academic system in the world. It was where the academic elite sent the crème of their Roman children to be educated for up to twenty years. The Druids are said to have founded forty universities or schools of learning in Britain alone, in which at one time some 60,000 students were enrolled. According to an account by Julius Caesar, the Gauls of France sent their youths to Britain to be educated. Classical writers such as Strabo, Caesar and Suetonius, claimed that these Druidic students received up to twenty years of tuition in astronomy, the laws of the natural creation including mathematics, geometry, medicine, jurisprudence, poetry and oratory, as well as in the moral code of their religion that underpinned every aspect of their teaching. In classical literature Druids are acknowledged as profound philosophers with a worldwide reputation. In fact Clement of Alexandria even suggested that the Celtic people were the very originators of philosophy. A student at one of the great Druidic colleges might qualify to become a Druid only upon the completion of this long educational process. As the Druids measured their calendar in lunar cycles, it is more than probable that the actual period of their education matched the completion of the lunar time cycle of nineteen years. While no literary documents exist to prove the date of the establishment of Druidism in Britain, the educational system adopted by the Druids is traced back to about 1800 B.C., when Hu the Mighty and his party settled in Britain. It is important to establish that Druidism predated the arrival of the Celts into the British Isles by well over a thousand years. Thus Druidism is pre-Celtic. It was adopted by the Celts, with little modification, as they migrated into the British Isles from about 500 B.C.

Although the origin of the word Druid is not known with certainty, the Encyclopedia Britannica suggests “uid” as meaning “knowing” and “dru” as a strengthening prefix, implying a very learned or wise man. Another suggestion according to the author and scholar E. Raymond Capt is that the name “Druid” is derived from“Druithin,” meaning, “a servant of truth.” The latter does fit in with one of their religious principles that may be summed by the Druidic motto, “the truth against the world” (Y Gwyr Yn Erbyn Byb). Just think what a truly wonderful motto this is! These peaceful “Druidic Servants of Truth” were by this very motto indicating that if needed they would be prepared to stand against the whole world to uphold the truth. The motto implies enormous certainty, as well as great courage. Diogenes Laertius, another classical writer, describes the grandest articles of the Druidic belief system as being: “To revere the Deity, abstain from evil and behave valiantly.” (*5) The Latin equivalent for Druids is “Magi”, and early Irish and Welsh writers used this term. Julius Caesar in commenting on the Druids wrote: “They taught of the stars and their motions, the magnitude of the countries, the nature of things, and the power of God.” His words are a fine testimony to a most noble people. (*6) Nevertheless, Caesar’s words are in sharp contrast to the later Roman slanders in which the character of the Druids was being systematically besmirched.
