True biblical Zionism from God’s perspective is seen throughout the Scriptures of the Bible where after years of God referring ambiguously to “the place where he would place his name” in the Torah for all to come to Him with their offerings throughout all generations. He finally clarifies “that place” as specifically being Jerusalem. God’s covenant with Abraham from the beginning was to give the land of Israel to his descendants, but the place where He would “choose to place His name” and build His house was not made clear until later. In 2 Chronicles 6:5-6, King Solomon quotes God as saying:

5 Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel. 6 Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.

The Bible could hardly be clearer... God chose Israel as a Bride, taken from Egypt as a redeemed slave girl and betrothed at Sinai, and He chose the land of Israel to be the possession of the future bride and the bridegroom (Mashiach ben David), and He chose Jerusalem as the Eternal capital and city in which to place His house, the Holy Temple for all generations, and the place from which all Nations will come to learn the light of His truth and love! This place (Yerushalayim) specifically in poetic and prophetic utterance is referred to as Zion!

Thus, Yehovah, the God of Israel, and the Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the Universe, is the ultimate Zionist, as Zionism clearly originates with Him!

Zionism reflects the eternal bond that links the Covenant our Creator made with the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, with the nation of Israel, the land of Israel, the people of Israel and the Messiah of Israel. Zionism therefore forms an intrinsic part of Hebrew culture. In fact, the word “Sion” or “Zion” is mentioned in the Bible no less than 164 times. It is the mountain upon which King David built his citadel and where the magnificent Temple of Solomon once stood. Whereas “Sion” means summit or peak, the Hebrew root for “Zion” is “SIGN” or “WAYMARK.” Zion therefore is a “sign” that points the world to YHVH, the GREAT GOD OF ISRAEL.

This is the very reason why Zionism is hated by the world at large. It is also why the politicians and nations rage against it, and why they will do anything to besmirch the term Zion in order to make Zionism appear to be something intrinsically evil. The simple truth is that rebellious man does not like to be reminded of the absolute and total AUTHORITY OF THE GREAT GOD of ISRAEL, who is the Author and Creator of all things.

At the same time, it also must be said that the founders of the Jewish State created their own political form of Zionism, which is based upon secular humanism. In effect, theirs too is a departure of Biblical Zionism. Every Israeli government since the foundation of the State of Israel has practiced a Zionism without God! Thus, even the leadership of the State of Israel shares that same spirit of rebellion with the rest of mankind, as they too refuse to be subject to the authority of the Creator of the Universe.

Nevertheless, all the Prophecies of God concerning the scattering of Israel throughout the Nations also refers to a time of regathering to the land in the last days, which is what we have seen in the establishment of the State of Israel, and what the Zionist movement is fulfilling... and we know that God works in mysterious ways and He has used the secular Zionist movement beginning in the late 1800s under Theodore Herzl to begin this work! And so, even though we know many are still under a veil, not seeing all things clearly yet, God is using the Jewish people, and we must not treat them or their ignorance with disdain, as God has used it to perform His mighty and miraculous fulfilment of Prophecy!

Ever since the Romans expelled the Jewish people from their Holy Land, after the second Jewish revolt led by Simon Bar Kochba in 135 A.D., the Jews have longed to return to their ancestral land. In Psalm 137, we find the well-known lament of the Jews who had been taken into captivity in Babylon, who wept “by the rivers of Babylon” (Psalm 137:1) and declared, “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill!” (Psalm 137:5) Some thirty years ago Boney M, the German disco band, immortalized this same yearning of the Jewish captives with their all-time hit single titled, “By the rivers of Babylon.” (To listen to this song, click HERE.)

The ancient dream of being a free people, once again gathered in their own land, has for the past 1900 years come into special focus on each Passover night. It is in that night that they remember their great deliverance from captivity in Egypt. The Jews the world over would at the end of each Passover Seder recite: “L’shana ha’ba-ah b’Yerushalayim.” Even to this day, as they raise their glasses at the Passover Seder, the toast is: “Next year in Jerusalem.” Throughout the ages, the Jews have understood that Jerusalem is connected with their future destiny. Encapsulated in this phrase, “next year in Jerusalem,” is the Messianic Vision of the great Prophets of the Hebrew Bible, which speaks of the restoration of the Whole House of Israel. Zionism therefore is rooted in the Bible and its spirit has been subliminally embedded in the heart of every Jewish person for at least the past nineteen centuries.

In essence, Biblical Zionism speaks of a time when Yehovah, the Author of all Life and the King of the Universe, will take over the rule of this world through His Son Yeshua, the Messiah, who will rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords from Mount Zion in Jerusalem over all the nations on the earth........this of necessity means that the rule of every emperor, king, president, prime minister or parliament throughout the whole world will come to an abrupt and sudden end! This divine intervention into the affairs of mankind will usher in a time of unprecedented peace, prosperity, wellbeing, and glorious fulfilment for all of mankind. The prophet Isaiah prophesies about this day in the years ahead.

“2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of YEHOVAH’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YEHOVAH, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of YEHOVAH from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.

(Isaiah 2:2-4, emphasis added)

In short, the Biblical foundation for Zionism is based upon Yehovah’s Covenant with Abraham. It was in this unconditional Covenant that God chose Abraham to birth a nation through which He would redeem the whole world, and to accomplish this, He bequeathed them a land on which to exist as His chosen nation.

Zionism therefore is sacred, as it is the manifest purpose of our Creator, and any person or nation that dares to come against His nation and His city Jerusalem will be ‘cut to pieces.’

And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.

(Zechariah 12:3)

True Zionism therefore represents the FUTURE!

Zionism is the Hope of Mankind!
